APPLE DEVICE UNLOCK GUIDE
Before shipping your devices to Second Life Mac, please ensure they’re ready for processing by addressing any device locks. This guide will help you understand and resolve different types of locks for the devices in your fleet.
PIN CODE & RESET REQUIREMENTS
- Ensure all PIN codes (iOS) or User Logins (MacOS) are removed from devices before shipping
- Devices must allow “Erase all Contents and Settings” (Adjuslable in your MDM or on the device directly)
- If reset is restricted (e.g., due to MDM policies), devices may require DFU mode processing, causing significant delays
- Devices requiring DFU processing will result in extended processing timelines and delayed paymentsÂ
IOS DEVICES (IPADS & IPHONES)
Your iOS devices may have digital locks tied to your Apple ID, EFI password, or MDM enrollmentâthese protect your data, but they’ll stall processing if they’re still active on arrival. Clear whichever locks apply to your fleet using the steps below before you ship.
Activation Locks
- Sign out of Apple ID
- Can simply turn off in Apple School Manager if still managed
- Remove from Find My network
- Document serial numbers
- Keep proof of purchase accessible
Remote Management Locks
- Check your Apple School Manager
- Export device list to CSV file
- Release (don’t just unassign) devices
- Verify in your Apple School Manager
- Confirm removal before shipping
MACOS DEVICES
Macs come with their own set of security locks (Apple ID, EFI password, and MDM enrollment) that need to be cleared before we can put them through processing. Use the breakdown below to knock out whichever ones apply to your fleet.
